Kolhapuri Misal Pav

I traveled to India in December 2009 and had several opportunities to eat some really interesting dishes. While in India I went to my home town Kolhapur and had this famous Kolhapuri Misal pav at one of my friends canteen. I had meant to write about this a long t ime back but just didn't get on to it. This was a dish worth mentioning here...

The spicy yet delicious Misal, tempered with hot kolhapuri spices was so amazing that I might have had several bowl full of it...

..This canteen where I ate the Misal was run by the royalty of Kolhapur, Shree Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj . The canteen was a walking distance from the Chtrapati Shahu museum and was opened to cater to the people who came to visit the museum. Since I knew the owners well, I had a wonderful opportunity to get into the kitchen to see how this dish was made the traditional way. The chef of the canteen was very busy catering to the people as the canteen seemed to be packed the day I went there. But she was kind enough to take out some time to show me the recipe step by step. The spicy yet delicious Misal that was tempered with hot Kolhapuri spices was so amazing that I might have had several bowl fulls of it and yet couldn't stop myself. The freshly made bread was really soft and complimented perfectly well with the spicy Misal. I had to actually eat an ice cream to cool down my tongue that was on fire from the spicy yet, tasty dish.

Above I have posted a picture of the Kolhapuri Misal pav. Let me know if you me to post a video recipe of this mouth watering dish...
